After three months of living out of a backpack and far too much unpacking and repacking to even mention it was nice to reach the tiled and spacious floors of our home for the next three months, Khao Lak, Thailand. Not that we’ve been hardly done by in recent weeks but there is something about coming back to Thailand that makes you think – aaaahhhh everything is going to be okay. Every possible convenience is almost at arms reach, if it isn’t it can be delivered. Harrod’s of Knightsbridge once made a claim that ‘any product, regardless of size, whether its living or not can be purchased here’, well every booking office in Thailand offers the exact same service, for a fraction of the price if you know where to go.

So all in all settling in went pretty well, first stop ‘the shop of many things’. I had Sarah in a half nelson for the majority of the time and I’m pleased to say that we only left with a table, a fridge (small), several packs of coat hangers, and a few bits of cutlery.

Apart from a touch of homemaking we are here to assist in the launch of Wicked Diving’s new programs for the coming months. Khao Lak acts as the gateway to the Similan and Surin Islands, Paul owner of Wicked and a good friend of ours has been creating adventures to this region that go beyond the standard 3 / 4 night packages that seem to be the norm in this region.

Of course this region is well known for its sightings of Whale Sharks, particularly at Richelieu Rock. We will be taking every effort to make our way up to this site and on the lucky days will be taking photos of this beautiful fish to send to Brad Normans ECOCEAN conservation project that aims to map their migratory habits. The last sighting was just a few days ago! For more information visit www.whale-shark.org.

Other projects include environmentally sound expeditions to the Surin Islands using biodiesel and staying in tents on the island, a practice similar to that already in place for the Similan Islands through Wicked. More on this later.

Finally I’d just like to introduce a new dive safari asia cat, hungry and desperately in need of love, care and tuna turned up on our doorstep after just 24 hrs of us moving in. Starting to sound familiar? Jennifer Yellow Hat has arrived, just three months to find someone willing to adopt.
